original and intact late 19th century antique american varnished solid cherry wood interior residential fireplace mantel likely fabricated by or for the morgan millwork company, chicago, ills. the structurally sound and uniformly stained solid hardwood mantel features a simple design with bead border running along the frieze. the mantle's shelf is free from excessive wear or damage. the mantel is configured with a large firebox opening for use with gas inserts (likely supplied by dawson brothers). the salvaged chicago mantel was removed from a residence built in the late 1880's.
