very rare and visually striking antique american venetian building interior ornamental cast bronze passage door hardware with intact swinging keyhole cover

single all original documented late 19th century heavily ornamented cast bronze interior venetian building passage door backplate and matching doorknob designed and fabricated by the yale & towne mfg. co., stamford, ct. the doorknob features a series of interlocking palmettes surrounding a ring with a striking field pattern. the backplate replete with swinging keyhole cover contains very clean and finely cast foliage combined with nautical design motifs. the nicely aged surface patina is mostly uniform throughout. the doorknobs and backplates were used on inner-office passage, closet, utility and doors leading to the banks of bathrooms. the passage door hardware was salvaged around 1959 when the building was demolished. the 13-story brick and terra cotta commercial building was completed in 1892. holabird and roche, architects.
