two matching original and highly sought after 19th century american eastlake style ornamental cast brass "oriental" pattern residential backplates. fabricated between 1885-89 by branford lock works, branford, ct. the enormously popular eastlake pattern enjoyed widespread use in chicago during the 1880's (found especially among victorian brick cottages, three-flats, etc). the backplates contain single keyholes with one having the original swinging keyhole cover. black enameled inlay accentuates the detail. the diamond-shaped collar or thimble remains tightly affixed to the backplate. measures approximately 7 3/8 x 2 inches. priced for the pair.
