single late 1920's american art deco "wedding cake" style pendant light fabricated by or for the harry alter lighting co., chicago, il. the stepped or multi-tiered milk glass shade features embossed floral ornament alternating with original baked black enameled design motifs outlined in square-shaped panels. the shade fitter, chain and ceiling canopy contain a mostly uniform metallic bronze enameled finish. the single white ceramic electric socket is original to the fixture. the machine age pendant light was salvaged from a local chicago diner. measures approximately 16 inches tall with a 12 inch diameter.
