single all original salvaged 19th century chicago cast iron freestanding residential stoop newel post designed and fabricated by the dearborn foundry company, chicago, ills. the black enameled cast iron newel post contains multiple holes for use with wrought tubular iron handrails. the distinctive pyramidal-shaped finial is free from cracks or breaks. the painted finish is largely uniform throughput. great overall condition. the late 19th century american victorian era newel post was salvaged from a chicago cottage built in the late 1880's.
