exceptional antique american 19th century ornamental cast iron copper-plated interior residential fireplace summer cover or front designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the two-part summer cover contains a deeply recessed detachable panel featuring a costumed musician performing on the mandolin. the surrounding frame features intricately designed and deeply embossed foliated scroll work. nicely aged surface patina left intact. measures 26 1/2 x 20 1/2 inches.
