all original hard to find highly sought after oversized early 20th century antique american industrial salvaged chicago commerical office building trash can designed and fabricated by the northwestern expanded metal company, chicago, ills. the worn and weathered steel waste can was designed and patented by joseph jantusek on january 30, 1923. the freestanding oversized waste basket is comprised of a single section of sheet metal which was "slitted and expanded" to form a uniform diamond mesh. the flared top with rolled rim or hoop is largely intact. the hard to find basket contains manufacturer markings on the bottom stamped steel plate.
