very unique and unusual c. 1910-20 original antique american single-sided cast bronze city sidewalk recessed plaque fabricated by or for the city of chicago streets and sanitation department. the sidewalk marker or plaque was set within a concrete sidewalk along lincoln avenue. these plaques were used to determine property lines, right-of-way, etc. the surface lettering and border contains age appropriate wear from decades of foot traffic and exposure to the elements. the plaque was acquired from a city street project foreman who had collected them when sidewalk were being replaced over the years. the plaque was removed when the concrete was broken up and kept as a "souvenir." measures approximately 13 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches.
