rare original three-sided c. 1880's salvaged chicago interior residential ornamental cast iron figural fireplace fireback

original 19th century ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace mantel fireback designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the refinished cast iron fireback consists of three panels with the centrally located panel featuring birds, snakes and plant-based forms. the lightly embossed panels are in good overall condition considering age. the fabricator's name and date is embossed on the backside of the central panel. the fireplace surround was salvaged from a northside chicago mansion built around 1889.
