refinished early 20th century american industrial flush mount electric switchboard panel analog voltmeter purportedly salvaged from an new york city irt subway substation shuttered long ago. the early electric measuring device was designed and fabricated by the westinghouse electric & mfg. co., pittsburgh, pa. the enclosure or round case is comprised of cast iron with a fanciful faceplate containing lightly raised delicate filigree. the opening below contains an analog display with original steel pointer that moves along a scale in proportion to the voltage of the circuit. standard voltmeters are used for measuring electrical potential difference between two points in a given electric circuit. the analog type contains a pointer that moves along a scale in proportion to the voltage of the circuit. the original clear glass panel protecting the delicate scale is free from damage. the cast iron face plate and cylindrical-shaped body has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. likely fabricated around 1910.
