very unique and hard to find intact art deco style bent tubular steel chair designed in the manner of designer gilbert rohde. the brown enameled streamlined arm chair was an original furniture piece used in the downers grove price castle (later cock robins) ice cream shop during the 1930's. the padded orange seat was likely reupholstered in the 1960's. the backrest is made of a heavy gauge bent steel. the slightly angled seat is supported by the tubular frame and two bent steel straps affixed at the rear. the original removable swinging stainless steel serving tray is original to the chair. fabricator unknown. price castle was originally established in 1928 by earl prince and walter fredenhagen. the first location was built in dekalb, il in 1928. the business gradually expanded over the years with additional ice cream stores opening in naperville, downers grove, glen ellyn, elmhurst and lagrange. price castle (later known as cock robin) specialized in squared scoop ice cream, fresh fruit sundaes and one in a million malts.
