original and fully functional historically important cast bronze and iron cook county hospital building basement morgue door unit lock designed and fabricated by the yale and towne mfg. company, stamford, ct. the nickel-plated finish remains largely intact with surface wear evident. cook county hospital was designed by architect paul gerhardt. schmidt, garden, and martin were the supervising architects. the hospital was built between 1912-1914 by john griffiths & son company. the terra cotta was likely executed by northwestern.
