executed by the winslow brothers of chicago, ills., the white enameled ornamental iron and glass bridge was erected - without city authorization - at night in 1898 and threatened with demolished shortly thereafter. it survived, albeit heavily altered until the 1970s when it was finally demolished by the cta.
