c. 1890's american interior residential ornamental cast iron fireplace gas insert or grate designed and patented by the dawson brothers, chicago, il. the fanciful surround features two flanking cherubs nestled in cornucopias. the protruding cast iron hood contains a unique fishscale design motif. the detachable pierced metal grates are original and intact. contains an old bake black enameled "japanned" finish. measures 24 1/2 x 30 1/2 x 7 inches. the c. 1890-95 american gas grate or insert was manufactured by the dawson bros. co., chicago, il.
