matching set of original c. 1924 neoclassical style ornamental cast iron office door hardware salvaged from the extant continental & commercial national bank building located in downtown chicago - in an area commonly referred to as the "la salle street canyon." the original bower & barff "rustproof" black enameled finish remains largely intact. manufactured by the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britain, ct. the continental & commercial national bank building was built in 1914 by the chicago architect, daniel burnham. the design pattern appears to have been specific to this building, which echoes the overall neoclassical design scheme found in both the interior and exterior of the bank. the knobs features a simple, yet elegant radial fluting with raised center. the backplates contains a repeating bellflower motif border. backplates measure approximately 10 x 3 1/8 inches and doorknobs measure approximately 2 1/2 inches in diameter. priced for the set.
