totally unique early 20th oddfellows fraternal group ritual coffin or casket comprised of hand-made pine wood with original antique gold enameled finish. candidates involved in secret societies were required to examine physical consequences of death, in the form of skulls, skeletons and coffins. the candidate would be consigned to a chamber of reflection room containing a coffin with corpse. candidates for the odd fellows took their oaths before a coffin. in some cases, coffins were provided for the candidate to actually occupy and confess their wrongdoings and so on. the small coffin shown above was used for symbolic purposes only.
