c. 1890's antique american victorian era metallic gold enameled ornamental cast iron fireplace gas insert surround or grate, fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the neoclassical style surround is heavily adorned with floriated scollwork, anthemions, etc. the enameled finish remains mostly uniform. the gas insert surround is free from cracks or breaks. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence built around 1896. measures 24 3/4 x 30 3/4 inches.
