c. 1890's antique american richardsonian romanesque style exterior residential ornamental cast iron doorknob backplate. the oversized escutcheon was designed and fabricated by the yale & towne mfg. co., stamford, ct. retains the original bower-barff (baked black enameled) "rustproof" finish. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence. measures approximately 12 1/2 x 3 1/8 inches.
