all original and completely intact late 19th or early 20th century solid quarter-sawn oak wood interior residential fireplace mantel fabricated by or for the sturm and spiegel furniture company, chicago, ills. the structurally sound and stable salvaged chicago victorian era mantel retains the original varnished finish. the frieze is uniquely designed with protruding shelf below the the top shelf. a centrally located "bullseye" accentuates the frieze. the legs contains incised vertical lines flanking the firebox opening.
