two matching c. 1930 american art deco style carved limestone blocks salvaged from the non-extant calumet theater (hammond, in.) demolished in december of 2011. each embossed limestone panel features a "stepped" octagonal-shaped rosette with centrally located button, surrounded by pyramdical shaped sun rays. the calumet theater was designed by architect lewis hess with charles n. scott as general contractor or builder. both the cornerstone and facade identify the building owner as h. p. downey. the small venue was built in the art deco or moderne style, with a facade clad in ornamental limestone and a centrally located illuminated marquee positioned above the ticket booth. the two sets of entrance doors are flanked by curvaceous, streamlined style curtain walls containing oversized poster display cases set into the wall. the depilated theater was demolished in december of 2011 after decades of neglect. the two matching blocks contain a mostly uniform and naturally aged surface patina. measures 12 x 12 inches. priced for the pair.
