original turn of the century antique american ornamental cast iron interior residential neoclassical style summer cover with matching surround. both the cover and outer surround were fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the summer cover contains a centrally located cartouche, surrounded by a large palmette, ribbons and foliated scrollwork. the surround with protruding hood features similar classical style design elements. the antique or old gold enameled finish is uniform throughout. the ironwork is free from cracks or breaks. great overall condition. the fireplace summer cover was salvaged from a residence undergoing demolition in st. louis. 24 1/2 inches x 2 1/2 inches x 30 1/2 inches.
