all original and largely intact extraordinary early 20th century interior residential full fireplace mantel designed and fabricated by the hegan mantel co., louisville, ky. the oversized masculine mantel contains two full-round columns with large plinth blocks and unornamented turned capitals. the original beveled-edge square-shaped mirror is intact and free from damage. the mantel shelf and header are supported by the load-bearing posts. the late 19th century mantel was salvaged from a chicago residence undergoing demolition. original varnished oak finish.
