original late 19th century antique american ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace summer cover fabricated by or for chicago architectural ironworks, chicago, il. the summer cover contains a centrally located cartouche containing a deep relief assemblage of musical instruments surrounded by floral ornament. the elongated oval border consists of an egg & dart border. the ornament surrounding the cartouche includes cornucopias, ribbons and elegantly designed floriated scrollwork. the outer border consists of a repeating beed & reel design motif. the black enameled summer cover measures 20 x 25 inches.
