original late 19th century antique american ornamental cast bronze exterior door backplate or escutcheon possibly fabricated by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the oversized pierced metal doorknob backplate contains a mostly uniform oil-rubbed bronze enameled finish. very unique and unusual swirl pattern thimble or collar. contains a circular opening for use with a standard cylindrical lock. measures approximately 10 1/4 x 2 1/8 inches.
