late 1930's all original american industrial south side chicago single-occupancy hospital room multi-drawer simmons dresser

unrestored original and intact american industrial mobile compartmentalized heavy gauge steel dresser designed and fabricated by the simmons mfg. co., kenosha, wisc. the dresser retains the original "faux" wood grain finish over metal. the pressed and folded depression era metal dresser was likely designed by albert witike in the late 1920's or early 1930's. the four turned and tapered pedestal style legs are structurally sound and stable. the original pressed steel drawer pulls or knobs are in great condition. the pressed steel bassick casters are original and in great working condition. the upright cabinet retains the original circular label (often found on the interior left side side of the top drawer). simmons specialized in metal bed frame fabrication primarily for hospitals, hotels and other commercial settings. surface wear evident. a large assortment of cabinets, chairs, benches and other simmons furniture was salvaged from this institution. measures approximately 32 x 19 x 38 inches.
