original pre-chicago fire interior residential solid walnut wood staircase newel post likely fabricated by the heeney & campbell mfg. co., chicago, il. the finely and turned and tapered walnut newel post was salvaged from an italianate style residence built around 1865. the freestanding post contains a nicely aged surface patina. measures 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 43 inches.
