original 19th century american antique victorian era late 19th century ornamental cast iron residential fireplace gas insert or grate designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the largely intact fireplace grille was salvaged from a chicago graystone undergoing demolition. the protruding hood with unique profile contains deeply embossed neoclassical style ornament. the surround and detachable lower pierced metal grate are in great condition, considering age. old gold paint finish remains largely intact. measures 33 x 26 x 4 inches.
