large lot of 1870s metal compression casting company ornamental cast bronze residential hinge cover plates

hard to find c. 1870-75 antique american high victorian era interior residential passage door hinge leaf cover plates designed and fabricated by the metallic compression casting company and/or the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britain, ct. the door hinge cover plates were originally fastened against hinges with two small set screws (included). the matching decorative plates were designed to conceal the five screw holes found along each hinge leaf. if that number of screw holes was used in conjunction with cover plates, the design elements would be greatly compromised. in addition, the plates offer maximum visual ornament with little detraction from the existing screw or mounting holes. mostly uniform in appearance. priced for the lot.
