late 1920's all original and nicely aged (i.e., uncleaned) solid brass interior chicago motor club building interior elevator car push button backplate designed and fabricated by or for the otis elevator company, new york city, ny. the warm brass patina is mostly uniform throughout. the beveled-edge backplate contains the typical "up" and "down" lettering. the backplate was salvaged from one of the upper floors of the chicago motor club building during interior changes stemming from its transformation into a hotel building. the c. 1928 art deco landmark was designed by famed architects holabird and roche and/or later root. the internal components were salvaged along with the backplate. the distinctive ball-shaped buttons are hard to find in this configuration. measures 2 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches.
