fully adjustable early 20th century refinished telephone switchboard operator bent birch wood stationary chair or stool with cushioned backrest and heel ring or footrest

c. 1900-10 original antique american industrial adjustable height telephone switchboard operator chair or stool designed and fabricated by or for the thonet brothers co., new york city, ny. the oversized chair contains a revolving seat with a cushioned backrest (the cushion was likely added at a later point in time). the the swivel seat is supported by a solid steel rod or threaded spindle attached to the elaborately constructed base. the outswept legs are structurally sound and stable. the original heel ring or footrest is free from damage. the switchboard operator stool has been refinished and sealed with a clear coat finish. the original rattan seat cover was removed long ago (likely from excessive wear, holes or damage). the newer seat was likely added in the 1950's, or perhaps later. the stool is both structurally sound and stable. seat measures 16 inches in diameter
