vintage american industrial salvaged chicago interior theater stage "ghost light" with steel crouse-hinds light with reinforced clear glass bulb guard. the early electric light is supported by a stationary cast iron three-legged base with threaded end post. the stage fixture has been rewired using period appropriate black braided cloth cord. there are many myths and/or legends surrounding the purpose and use of the ghost light (e.g., deter the presence of old ghosts), but according to a number of 1920's theater supply catalogs, the single light fixtures were referred to as "cleaner stands" and/or
portable work lights.
