all original and intact wall-mount 19th century american victorian era lightly stained quartered oak wood fireplace mantel designed and fabricated by chas f. lorenzen & co., chicago, il. the half-mantel contains a largely unadorned shelf supported by two opposed corbels or brackets with grooved edges. the frieze features a centrally located deeply incised palmette flanked by foliated scrollwork. the mantel was salvaged from a chicago graystone built around 1892. the mantel is structurally sound and stable. measures approximately 63 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 46 1/2 inches and insert measures 36 x 36 inches.
