fantastic original late 19th century metal biunial electrified magic lantern made by the mcintosh stereopticon company chicago

beautiful original antique biunial magic lantern salvaged from a logan square, chicago masonic temple. appearing more industrial than most biunials, the metal casing has two small doors opening onto large lightbulbs that allow the projector to work its magic. it is electrified to 1000 watts. manufactured by the mcintosh stereopticon company, an american lantern and slide manufacturer, founded in the 1880s by the civil war physician dr lyman d. mcIntosh. the company manufactured medical devices and a wide range of sciopticon lanterns and school lanterns. among their models a lantern mounted on two horizontal rods that included a projecting microscope, a lightweight portable sciopticon and a metal housed triunial lantern, the royal chicago. they also offered gas-making apparatus, lantern accessories and slides. the bellows likely need to be replaced, but lenses are unbroken. has not been tested.
