original and intact c.1850's open-pontiled vibrant blue-green glass paneled cathedral pickle jar hand-blown by the west willington glassworks. the square glass-shaped bottle has an indented or recessed panel on each side with decorative floral features at the shoulders. the opposite two sides feature a stepped recessed panel with the same shoulder design but an additional deeply debossed diamond within the pillars. the stylized designs on cathedral jars originated during the mid-nineteenth century "gothic revival" era in america and europe, which greatly affected the architecture of the period. the jar is finished with an outwardly folded collar. strong side seams run through base to finish, evidencing the glass was blown in a key hinge mold. the base has a shallow domed kickup with a large open pontil scar. crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture including whittling, bubbles, and slop or asymmetry in the finish. the bottle was dug in new orleans, and has been cleaned or tumbled so appears in mint condition. measures 9 inches high.
