remarkable one of a kind c. 1920's american amusement park or carnival ride folk art figural "chinese dragon" fragment. the body is comprised largely of solid pine wood boards fastened together. the overlapping scales are made of individually cut masonite sections nailed to the body. the dragon retains the original hand-painted brightly colored polychrome enameled finish. the head and body originally contained internal copper tubing (used to produce smoke) that channeled and/or was released through the dragon head's nostrils. the eye openings are equipped with sockets that likely contained colored light bulbs. a massive boat divided the creature's head and tail end. remarkably heavy. light crazing evident throughout. the exact fabricator and/or artist is not known. together the dragon measures 122 1/4 inches in length.
