original late 19th century highly ornate antique american exterior residential entrance door backplate possibly fabricated by p. & f. corbin or the sargent hardware company. the oversized doorknob backplate is comprised of cast bronze with deeply embossed and intricately detailed neoclassical design motifs. mostly uniform surface patina. the protruding thimble is original and intact. contains a circular opening for a flush mount cylinder lock. measures 12 1/2 x 3 inches.
