completely intact early 20th century original american piano or roll top desk incandescent lamp designed and fabricated by the faries mfg. co., decatur, il. the piano lamp features a light gauge spun yellow brass cylindrical shade with protruding "visor" or lamp guard designed to focus the light downward and away from the eyes. a series of perforated holes dissipate excessive heat generated from the high-wattage light bulb. the bent tubular arms are fastened to a tapered and stepped swivel base affixed to a black enameled beveled edge slate block or counterweight. the original, highly desirable oxidized copper plated finish over brass remains intact. the antique american lamp retains the original bryant paddle switch socket. the single electric light measures 18 inches in length.
