single original and intact c. 1910-15 american industrial factory office drop or pendant light replacement shade likely fabricated by or for h.g. mcfaddin & co., new york city, ny. the conical-shaped emeralite green cased glass shade with white reflective interior was found wrapped in newspaper in the storage closet of an old twine factory office salvaged by urban remains. multiple matching shades available. we were told that the shades hung above the desks of the company's officers and administration personnel. the over-sized yellow brass ventilated "uno" fitters with intact set screws were still attached to the shades. the shades hung from a single key socket and lamp cord "dropped" from the ceiling. "bellova" and "emeralite" type lamps were designed and fabricated by harrison d. mcfaddin & co., beginning in 1909. on may 11, 1909 mcfaddin's submitted patent application for "a new, original and ornamental design for lamp shades" was approved. for the next 50 years, emeralite became a common fixture in homes and offices alike. the lamp shades are distinct in that they exhibit no sharp corners. in addition, emeralite shades were made using the "cased glass" technique, whereby the opalescent white glass was treated with a thin layer of green on the exterior side of the shade. the great majority, if not all glass shades were fabricated in rapotin, moravia (czech republic) in the factory of j. schreiber & neffen. the shade is free from cracks or breaks. the original ventilated brass shade fitter is included.
