two oversized all original fanciful single-sided cast iron 30-ton gantry crane manufacturer plaques salvaged from an early 1930's enormous chicago foundry complex the name plaques were located along the overhead bride that moved along a set of opposed rails. the original desirable polychromatic porcelain enameled sign featuring the "milwaukee crane" logo was removed long ago. the single-sided flush mount plaques were riveted against a heavy gauge section of sheet steel or cold-rolled iron with solid copper rivets. the layers of yellow paint were removed and the surfaces treated with a brushed metal finish to maximize the clarity of the raised lettering. the 30-ton crane also include a plaque for a five-ton auxiliary crane (offered in a separate listing). the two plaques are free from breaks or cracks. traces of a few of the copper rivet heads remain intact. the brushed metal finish has been treated with a clear coat lacquer. the set of name plates are clean and compact artifacts representing one of the largest cranes used in this very prominent chicago-based foundry (currently undergoing demolition). measures 32 x 4 1/2 and 25 5/8 x 4 5/8 inches respectively.
