original 19th century antique american interior residential coal or wood burning fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by or for henry dibblee & co., chicago, il. the single-sided cover is highly ornamented with a centrally located oval-shaped cartouche containing rich filigree and/or foliated scrollwork. the iron summer cover was salvaged from a chicago italianate residence undergoing demolition. the bottom section was reconfigured or modified to fit the existing opening. the black paint finish is mostly uniform throughout. measures 19 x 25 inches.
