all original and exceptionally well-designed antique american civil war-era ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace mantel salvaged from a chicago mansion built before the great chicago fire. the iron mantel has been completely refinished (brushed bare metal) and treated with a clear coat sealant. the mantel contains deeply grooved lines, chamfered plinths and a highly desirable "horseshoe" opening. the projecting keystone with oval-shaped cartouche and beveled edge mantel shelf are original to the mantel. the mantel was designed and fabricated by wm. l. perkins & co., cincinnati, oh. measures approximately 5 1/2 x 6 x 43 inches.
