original early 20th century antique america ornamental cast iron "reole" pattern interior residential doorknob backplate designed and fabricated by the reading hardware company, reading, pa. the neoclassical style surface mount backplate contains a mostly uniform brushed metal finish. the single keyhole escutcheon contains large cartouches, bellflowers and foliated scrollwork. measures approximately 8 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches.
