19th century original salvaged chicago ornamental cast iron residential fireplace surround with copper-plated finish

all original and profusely ornate late 19th or early 20th century copper-plated cast iron interior residential fireplace gas insert designed and fabricated by the schneider & trenkamp co., cleveland, oh. the decorative protruding hood and "ash" grate (concealing the gas "mixer") are original and intact. the small gas jets are found along the very bottom of the recessed opening. exceptional design and casting detail throughout. this type of insert is not found often in chicago homes. the exterior has been sealed with a clear coat finish to prevent surface corrosion.
