original c. 1890-1900 american victorian era interior residential ornamental cast iron fireplace gas grate surround designed and fabricated by the hornet metal co., st. louis, mo. the protruding hood and flanking pilasters or upright supports retain much of the original copper-plated finish. the surround contains elegant foliated scrollwork with centrally located cartouche found on the hood. measures 24 1/2 x 30 1/2 inches.
