original late 19th century original freestanding american victorian era exterior ornamental cast iron chicago stoop handrail support bracket fabricated by south-western architectural iron works, chicago, il. the bracket or baluster originally supported a tubular hollow steel rail affixed to cast iron newel posts at the base of the stoop. the bracket contains pre-drilled holes (on each corner of the baseplate) for anchoring into the stone or concrete tread. the single bracket is richly ornamented with foliated scrollwork, berries, etc. uniform black enameled finish. 12 3/4 x 3 x 26 1/2" base plate 4 1/2 x 4 1/4"
