original late 19th or early 20th century antique american ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace gas insert summer cover designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the heavily perforated gridded "screen" is accentuated with slightly raised ribbons, swag, bellflowers and other neoclassical ornamentation. the metallic gold enameled finish is mostly uniform throughout. the centrally located knob or pull is original and intact. likely fabricated between 1895-1910. measures 26 1/2 x 16 inches.
