original and intact c. 1920's or 30's antique american industrial portable 5-gallon "liquid measure" oil can fabricated by or for the standard oil company of indiana. the medium-sized american oil can is comprised of reinforced galvanized steel with oversized riveted joint handle and unique clasp used to keep the cap tightly in place. the large oil can retains the original elongated oval-shaped brazed brass plaque with lightly incised lettering. the neck below the cap contains a thin piece of strap metal with embossed lettering identifying the can as "standard oil." the brushed metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. great overall condition, considering age. measures approximately 12 x 22 inches.
