c. 1914 ornamental cast brass interior doorknob backplates salvaged from the fort dearborn hotel. originally located on the corner of la salle and van buren streets, the hotel fort dearborn was built in 1914 with r.w. shaw as lead designer. the facade was composed of red brick with glazed white terra cotta ornament. the backplates feature a unique interlace border design with a shield or plaque containing a deep relief depiction of fort dearborn at the very top of the plate. likely made by the sargent hardware co., new haven, ct. priced for the pair. surface patina varies. measure approximately 8 1/2 x 3 inches.
