two matching original 19th century antique american eastlake style deeply recessed handle residential pocket door backplate or escutcheons with black enameled inlay

pair of original early 1880's antique american eastlake style "crisscross" pattern interior residential recessed handle pocket door backplates designed and fabricated by the p. & f. corbin company, new britain, ct. the decorative cast brass backplates or escutcheons are retain the original baked black enameled inlay used to accentuate the ornament. two of the outer edges were modified (likely during installation), possibly to conform to the existing trim. the design was patented in 1879 or possibly 1883. each backplate measures approximately 2 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches. priced for the pair.
