original early 20th century american wrought brass "como" pattern doorknob designed and fabricated by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the interior residential passage size doorknob contains a partially cleaned finish. the banded rim doorknob features a slightly raised beaded border arranged in a graduating concentric fashion. multiple doorknobs available. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence undergoing demolition. the p. & f. corbin hardware company originated in 1849 when brothers philip and frank corbin and edward doen established the firm of doen, corbin & co. in new britain, ct. at this point in their infancy they solely manufactured ox balls. shortly after, in 1851, the company's name changed to the p. & f. corbin company. by 1868 corbin's catalog of builders' hardware was greatly expanded and the hardware company saw rapid growth thereafter. by the beginning of the 20th century, corbin was one of the leading hardware manufacturers in the world. measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter.
